Zarayn is an experienced health professional with a deep commitment to improving cancer outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. As the Aboriginal Outcomes Lead at the Cancer Institute New South Wales, Zarayn guides state-wide initiatives aimed at enhancing the cultural safety and efficacy of cancer care for Aboriginal people. With a focus on community engagement, they ensure that cancer control programs align with Aboriginal Health Plans and contribute to the development of a NSW Aboriginal Cancer Strategy.
In their concurrent role as Strategic Program Manager for Cancer Strategy at the Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO), Zarayn leads significant initiatives, including the National Lung Screening research pilot and the creation of frameworks to promote Indigenous Data Sovereignty. They continued to work towards implementing the VACCHO Cancer Strategy and pioneered culturally significant projects like the Aboriginal Cancer Patient Journal and the Men’s Cancer Cloak to support patients during treatment.
Their extensive experience includes roles at the University of New South Wales, Royal Children’s Hospital, and Queensland Health, where they focused on culturally safe healthcare, project management, and direct community support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and families. With a career dedicated to health advocacy and strategic leadership, Zarayn continues to foster meaningful change in cancer care and outcomes for Aboriginal communities.
