Dr Surendran Veeraiah

Dr. Surendran Veeraiah is a distinguished Professor and Head in the Department of Psycho-oncology and Resource Centre for Tobacco Control, Cancer Institute (WIA), India. He is also the Regional Director Elect (Region 1) of the International Psycho-oncology Society. With over 23 years of experience, he oversees teaching, research guidance, clinical supervision, patient care, and research projects focused on tobacco control and psycho-oncology. Dr Surendran Veeraiah has shown remarkable initiative by spearheading the establishment of an M.Phil. course and Ph.D programs in psycho-oncology in India. Dr. Veeraiah's impactful research has been published in reputable journals, covering areas such as cancer fatigue and quality of life for cancer patients. He actively participates in national and international conferences, where he shares his expertise in psycho-oncology and tobacco control. Dr. Veeraiah's commitment to advancing knowledge and improving the well-being of cancer patients and those affected by tobacco underscores his significant contributions to psychology and public health. He has taken proactive steps to address the practical needs of patients by providing free wigs and breast prostheses. These efforts contribute significantly in enhancing the dignity and quality of life of individuals undergoing cancer treatment, helping them cope with the physical and emotional challenges associated with the disease. In addition, he is also an active member of various State and National Committees pertaining to cancer and tobacco control in India.
